Figure 5: The APS Ellipticity Distribution of a Diameter Limited Sample

A plot of the logarithm of APS diameter versus magnitude for large galaxies in the APS North Galactic Pole Survey. Notice the seperation of face-on and edge-on galaxies into upper and lower portions (respectively) of the distribution. The dashed line is the expect slope of 5 from the relationship of distance to flux. The arrows indicate the direction a galaxy will move with increasing inclination for two extreme models of internal extinction.
