New Results
using the APS's (isophotal) diameters...
Our priliminary investigation shows that using the APS
diameters of ZCAT spirals has resulted in a significant revision of some
of Choloniewski's results:
- angular diameters of both the diameter-limited and magnitude-limited
subsets of the ZCAT are shown to increase with increasing inclination (lower
axial ratio, p)
- Linear galaxy diameters, D, also increase with increasing
inclination.
- Surface brightness, ,
decreases with increasing inclination.
These results are seen in Figures
6 and 7.
So...
These trends
indicate that both early and late-type spiral galaxies are at least somewhat
optically thin and not optically thick as indicated by studies using the
UGC diameters. |
